Hospitality
Lunch room helper
Volunteers are needed to assist and supervise students during their lunch period. Volunteers also wipe off tables in between classes and assure students leave at their scheduled time and in a respectful manner.
Time commitment: 11:00-12:00 one day per week

Grandparents’ Day Lunch
Volunteers are needed to assist in the kitchen serving food or helping to seat guests, pour coffee and wipe off tables between guests.
Time commitment: 11:00-1:00 on Grandparents’ Day in October

Eighth Grade Graduation Dinner
6 volunteers are needed to help serve graduates and their families dinner. This event is catered.

Faculty dinner during conferences
Volunteers are needed to make food for the teachers during conferences. Options could include a pan of bars, a crock pot of soup, a case of pop or water.
Time commitment: any of needed 2 evenings in October or February.

Pop Fiesta
Volunteers are needed to serve pizza before the Pop Fiesta (Junior High Band/Choir Concert) in March.

Pancake Breakfasts
Volunteers are needed to serve coffee and set tables during the KC sponsored breakfast whose proceeds go to the music boosters and Sports Boosters

Spaghetti Supper
Volunteers are needed to help with set up, clean up and serving at the Spaghetti supper whose proceeds go to Sports Boosters.

Student Activities
Carnival
Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, clean-up and running games and staffing booths at the Fall Carnival.
Time commitment: 2 hour shift one Sunday afternoon in late September

Catholic Schools Week Activities
Volunteers are needed during Catholic Schools’ Week to assist the staff with various activities including Crazy Olympics, Ice Cream Social, and others.

Science Fair Judge
Volunteers are needed to listen to seventh and eighth grade students explain their science fair project and critique them. No prior experience or special knowledge needed.
Time commitment: 8-11:30 a.m. on the last Monday in January (during Catholic Schools Week)

Cribbage
Volunteers are needed to assist students in grades 3-5 with learning and playing the game of cribbage.
Time commitment: Thursdays, 2:45-3:30 p.m. in January-March.

Classroom
Classroom Aide
Assist your child’s teacher on an as needed or weekly basis. Volunteers spend time in their child’s classroom helping with special projects and assisting the teacher with various needs.

Library Helper
Volunteers are needed to assist Mrs. Berg with reading to the students, helping them choose books and re-shelving books.
Time commitment: approx. a half hour one morning per week.

Computer Lab
Volunteers are needed to assist younger students in the computer lab. Very basic computer skills are helpful.

Geography Program
Volunteers are needed to assist students in the World Passport Geography Program.
Students study the various maps at home and volunteers test their knowledge once a week. This is a fun way to interact with individual students and learn geography at the same time. (Answer keys are provided for volunteers!)
Time commitment: 1 hour (typically in the afternoon), 1 day per week.

Room Parent
This volunteer serves as the teacher’s main contact for helping with classroom needs, parties, field trip chaperones and volunteer needs.

Kindergarten Roundup
Volunteers meet at United Prairie Bank and call parents of children that will be entering Kindergarten in the fall to answer any questions they may have about St. Mary’s and encourage them to consider sending their child to St. Mary’s

Track and Field
Volunteers are needed to set up and serve pizza to students and faculty during this fun outdoor event held at Man they Park.
Time commitment: 12:00-1:00 on a Friday near the end of May

Playground Supervisor
Volunteers are needed to assist in monitoring students on the playground during their recess.
Time commitment: 1 or more days per week - 11:30-12:30

Health Screening
Volunteers are needed to assist the school nurse with vision and hearing screening. No special skills required. Short training session provided for all volunteers.

Picture Day
Volunteers are needed to assist the photographers in keeping students organized and on time for their picture sessions.

Fund Raising
Selling Scrip
The Scrip program raises funds for our school through the use of gift certificates purchased from a variety of retailers. When St. Mary’s families and parishioners make purchases using the gift certificates, the retailers give a percentage back to the school. Volunteers are needed to sell scrip after the Sunday masses at both churches.

Auction Committee
The Night of Knights Auction is St. Mary’s only major fundraiser. It is held in April of each year and to make it successful, a lot of planning must go into it. This involves soliciting local businesses, tracking donations and planning out the evening. Committee members serve a 3 year term. This is a great way to get involved and meet other parents.
Time commitment: monthly to weekly meetings - usually held in the evenings

Bingo
St. Mary’s Home & School Association runs the Bingo Tent at the Steele County Fair in August. Volunteers are needed to work at Bingo as callers and money takers and to serve on the organizing committee.
Time commitment: 2 hour shifts 11:00 am to 10:00 pm during the Fair.

Concession Stand
Volunteers are needed to staff the concession stand during the Tri-County Basketball Tournament which St. Mary’s hosts every year in February.
